We are not authors, we are translators.

I often assume that I have to figure out the plot, the concept or an idea before writing it down, only to find that the figuring out actually happens during the writing down. And so I am learning to meet the pixel, the pen, the moribund piece of paper, the messy desktop, the relentless whirring of the fan above, not merely as tools but as equal collaborators in the conspiracy to create.
